I.            POSITION SUMMARY:

            The Registered Nurse, as a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care.  According to the established standards of nursing practice and standards of care, he/she demonstrates an ability to make clinical nursing judgements in an efficient and effective manner.  The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care and consistently performs according to the standards of the profession. He/She may handle human blood and other potentially infectious and/or hazardous materials, which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or harmful elements.  This position may have the responsibility for the assessment, treatment and care of the patient in the following age groups: adult and geriatric. The Registered Nurse reports to the Nurse Manager/Director of his/her unit.

II.            QUALIFICATIONS:

A.                Current California Registered Nurse License.

B.                 One (1) year acute psych or geri-psych experience preferred.

C.                BCLS required (within 30 days of employment)

D.                CPI training required (within 90 days of employment)

E.                 Has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Possesses the physical abilities, including heavy lifting, and perceptive acuity, e.g., visual, hearing, to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions.
